For those of you who do not know, this is an American rock band that comes to you from Athens, Georgia, which is in the United States. The lineup includes John Bell, guitarist Jimmy Herring, Todd Nance, Dave Schools, John "JoJo" Hermann and Domingo "Sunny" Ortiz. George McConnell and Michael Houser also played lead guitar in the band.
During the year 2002, Michael Houses learned that he had pancreatic cancer. He continued to tour with the band, but on July 2, 2002, after a performance in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, he had to leave the tour because his health was going downhill. During this time, JoJo Hermann took over as the lead guitarist. Michael Houser passed away on August 10, 2002.
They have influences from southern rock bands like The Allman Brothers. Frequently, they are compared to bands like the Grateful Dead along with Phish. If their beloved fans are from the south, then they are known as "Spreadnecks" or "Spreadheads".
Michael Houser frequently had panic attacks and that is where the band got their name from. This band started out at the bottom, where they worked their way to the top. They started out by touring fraternities and bars. During the year 1987, Widespread Panic officially joined Landslide. In September of that year, they recorded "Space Wrangler", which is the bands first album.
Widespread Panic played their first show in March of 1990 in Colorado. They were the opening for the band called Little Women. To this day, they are still going strong and have many fans.
