Willie Nelson is an actor, singer, songwriter and philanthropist. He was born on April 30 of 1933. During his long career, he has written over two thousand five hundred songs and released around three hundred albums, which his fans enjoy to this very day. Worldwide, he is being recognized as an icon.
His parents were Myrle and Ira Nelson. During the Great Depression, him and his sister were raised by their grandparents. They went to the tiny Methodist church in their town. The church is where they were exposed to music first. Of course, since it was in a church, the first music they learned came from the hymnbooks. This is when his beautiful voice was discovered.
Both of his grandparents enjoyed music and encouraged both him and his sister. He has a popular gospel song called "Family Bible." This is the song that reflects the beginning of his musical influence. He sold the song to his guitar teacher. However, even then, it was not free - he charged his guitar teacher fifty dollars for the song.
He received his first guitar when he was only six years old. Soon after receiving the guitar, he started to compose and sing his own songs. He graduated school in 1950. After graduating, he joined the U. S. Air Force. However, he didn't last very long in the Air Force. He had to leave the U. S. Air Force because he was suffering with back problems.
After this, he went to Baylor University. In order to get money, he took on jobs here and there. One of the jobs he took on included selling encyclopedias to different households. Willie Nelson dropped out of college and began working as a radio disc jockey. He held this job for a couple of years. Nelson's life is full of adventure, but there are also hard times in there.
